In 1999, Lyndsay Donaldson left a legacy gift to our community. He had recently lost his wife, and he had a deep desire to keep her spirit alive through a charitable gift to the Community Foundation. Mr. Donaldson left a bequest through his will and established a charitable remainder trust, and a donor designated fund to honor his beloved wife. By being part of our Legacy Society his generosity lives on every year through the charitable gifts that are made through the Lyndsay and Mary Donaldson Charitable Foundation. Many visionary individuals like the Donaldson’s have helped the region through bequests and other legacy gifts.
The Community Foundation Legacy Society honors and recognizes the generosity and vision of those who have chosen to leave a legacy to the community through estate or deferred gifts to the Foundation. Legacy donors receive special recognition in Foundation publications and invitations to Legacy Society activities. The Foundation always honors requests for donor anonymity. Honorees of the society may choose to designate their gifts to a family foundation, donor advised fund, scholarship fund, designated fund, unrestricted fund or to their favorite charity.
Enrollment in this honorary society is simply a matter of advising the Community Foundation of the creation of a legacy gift: Common ways to accomplish this include: Bequest through a will or trust, IRA/401K designation, Life Insurance, or Lifetime Income Arrangement through a: Charitable Gift Annuity, Charitable Remainder Trust, Charitable Lead Trust. These gifts can be unrestricted to meet the most pressing local needs, or they can be designated to benefit your favored charity or cause. You do not need to tell us the amount of the gift and there is no minimum required.
