Herman and Doris Magnotto Memorial Foundation
"The Herman and Doris
Magnotto Memorial Foundation recently was created to honor the memory of two
outstanding individuals who were always willing to help those in need within
the Shenango Valley," said Larry Haynes, executive director of the Community
Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH. "We are pleased to be able to help
perpetuate their memories, while filling a vital need in our community." |

The foundation, which was established in June by the Magnotto's son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Aileen Magnotto, will allot funds in conjunction with the Shenango Valley Foundation to qualified individuals who request assistance to purchase groceries.
"One of the things that my mom and dad did a lot throughout their business
careers and their life was they always helped people that were in need,"
Michael Magnotto said. "When I was away at college, I would come home and
see my dad had all these charge accounts and I'd say, 'Dad, what are you
doing? You have to be able to pay your bills.' And he'd say, 'It's my
business. Don't worry about it.' If someone was in desperate need they
always had food to eat. My parents always made sure of that. And that was a
very valuable lesson I learned at a very young age."
"Having served in the grocery business for more than 100 years in the
Shenango Valley, the Magnotto family continues to make made it possible for
countless individuals and families to have food on their tables when they
are in need," Haynes said.
"Herman and Doris Magnotto's legacies will live on through this memorial
foundation, which will help preserve what they truly loved doing: feeding
those in need," Aileen Magnotto said. "Working and serving others in the
grocery business was more than a job or hobby for Herman and Doris - it was
a passion." |
